Some stories begin without a word. In BREAD’s images, they begin with a gesture. A hand working dough. A figure crossing the street. People sharing the same space.

Look at the gestures

Our characters are not detailed portraits. Faces are suggested. Posture, clothes and movement bring the scene to life. The drape of a boubou, the movement of a melhafa, an outstretched hand: every detail helps us recognise a familiar everyday world.

Let the paint breathe

Broad strokes, broken outlines and colour spilling over. This way of painting holds on to movement. A BREAD illustration does not need to describe everything to tell a story.

Start with people

Our art begins with the people and places that give the brand its character. Streets, tables and the work of hands. Food comes from somewhere, and someone makes it.

Next time you look at a BREAD image, try this: choose a hand and follow its gesture. What is it making? What is it sharing? That is often where the story begins.
